Who are Padukas Artisans?

Padukas Artisans is a dedicated artisan workshop based in the outback of the Palghar district in northern Maharashtra, a region known for its indigenous tribes and vibrant craft traditions. Specializing in Warli art, a distinct form of tribal art originating in the Neolithic period, Padukas Artisans showcases the cultural heritage of Palghar through intricate, handcrafted products. Warli art has been a cherished tradition within the local tribes, traditionally created by women as mural paintings on their home walls to celebrate festivals and significant occasions.

Founded in 2014 by the Om Gagangiri Maharaj Ashirwadit Trust, Padukas Artisans was established with the mission of empowering local tribal women through sustainable employment. By building on the community’s innate artistic skills, Padukas Artisans provides training in both traditional crafts and new artistic techniques, fostering creativity and confidence. Our artisans work with a variety of methods, including Patchwork Quilting, Warli Painting, Basket Making, Fabric Jewelry, and Toy Making, blending ancient techniques with contemporary design elements.

In 2020, Craftmark India certified Padukas Artisans as a creator of authentic Indian handicrafts, meeting national standards for quality and craftsmanship in Patchwork and Warli painting. Through our online store, we bring the exceptional work of these artisans to a broader audience, supporting their livelihoods and preserving a unique artistic legacy for future generations.
